After a seven-plus-year hiatus, the Aug. 1-2 return to Nelson Ledges Race Coursewas a great new beginning. The entry countfor the joint Neohio-Cincinnati RegionsRegional exceeded expectations with 108entries, and volunteers came out in droves.
When the Region left Nelson Ledges RaceCourse long ago, everyone wondered if theywould ever return. Drivers love the circuit – itis one of the fastest in North America. So, thereturn to the facility was greatly appreciated.
Some familiar buildings had beendemolished and removed, so the Regions puttogether an impromptu tech area in impound.
The facility has seen improvements overIt came to our attention that despite what we printed inthe August issue of SportsCar,LaJunta Raceway is located inthe city of LaJunta, Colo. – thecity is also a fervent supporterof racing. Therein, ColoradoRegion will be hosting aquad-Regional at LaJuntaRaceway on Oct. 17-18.

qualifying setting the grid for
race number one, which goes off
late morning,” Colorado Region’s
Redline magazine editor DavidMuramoto explains of the quad-racing weekend. “Race numbertwo lines up with the best timesfrom the race – or qualifying – onSaturday afternoon. Sundayis similar in format with thefastest times setting the grid.
“The track itself is likeSebring – built onto old runwaysleftover from training World WarII pilots,” Muramoto continues.
“But the track manager has
made continuous improvements
and Colorado and Continental
Divide Regions want to
continue supporting him.”
The mid-October event
offers points for both the 2020
and 2021 RMDiv seasons,
making this event a must-
attend for anyone campaigning
for season championships.”

As with any race weekend, unforeseenproblems did arise, but while smiles couldn’tbe seen thanks to masks, eyes gleamedshowing the pleasure most people hadin returning to this favorite track.
