Jesse Prather showed the truepotential of his new BMW Z3 at lastyear’s VIRginia International RacewayRunoffs. While he didn’t win – largelydue to an unforced error – SCCA’sClub Racing Board awarded his BMWwith a flat plate restrictor for hisRunoffs performance. But it takesmore than a restrictor to slow downthis three-time Runoffs winner.
In four weekends of racing this year,
Prather has had eight wins and set
three lap records, including at the June
Sprints. “The car and I are working really
well together this year, and that’s where
the speed is coming from,” explains
Prather, who has a proven ability to
engineer a racecar to be the best.
If Prather’s so fast, will there beany competition for the lead? Youbetcha. Matt Reynolds, a three-timeEP champion in his own right, is fasteverywhere he goes. Aaron Downey, meanwhile, has nearly won the Runoffsat Road America, and his RX- 3 lovesthose long straights – he’ll be gunningfor that elusive Runoffs win, for sure.
And don’t forget three-time Runoffschamp Jon Brakke who scored twoof those wins at Road America.
Finally, there’s the wild card:Cameron Wogrin. He’s a relativenewcomer to this field, but he’sproven to be fast in his BMW, andwe have little doubt that with a littleluck he could upset our predictions.
The first thing two-time RunoffsChamp Kevin Ruck said after beingtold he was our pick to win this year’s
