f you asked every driver in
SCCA about their dreams, a
career in professional racing
would probably rank high on the
list of common aspirations.
Luckily, SCCA amateur
competition has a great track
record of acting as a launching
pad for those with the desire to
do more. But the journey from
amateur to pro is rarely easy,
and it’s different for every racer.
Last year, a number of
professional racing series saw
SCCA members clinch overall
titles, and when asked, they
routinely credited their time in
the amateur ranks for their pro
racing successes. In a nutshell,
they all attributed hard work,
family support, and a lot of seat
time – but there’s more to the
story than that.
