Joining Chicago Region in 1995 as
a volunteer on the grid, he later added
Flagging and Communications experience
at road courses. Shortly after joining, he
began competing in Solo and took on
leadership positions within the Solo
group including Event Chair, Solo Safety
Steward, Chief of Tech, and also started
competing in Regional, Divisional, National
Tour and Solo Nationals competition.
Following retirement from his real job in
2000 and relocation to Northern Nevada, he
and his wife Carol transferred their
membership to Reno Region and immediately
became actively involved with the San
Francisco Region as race officials. Dave was
soon “drafted” to the position of Reno Region
Regional Executive and, during his five-year
stint as RE, promoted Reno Region
participation in Divisional Solo, Solo Trials,
Time Trials and Club Racing.
After becoming established in Northern
Nevada, he joined the SFR steward group as a
steward in training and attended an SFR
Driver’s School to earn a Club Racing novice
permit. Deborde has been an active member of
the Time Trials Administrative Council since
the inception of the SCCA Time Trials program.
Carol and Dave are in Reno Region positions
of leadership and continue to volunteer as
officials at nearly all SFR Club races. He also
continues to compete in Solo, Time Trials and
at Regional and National Club races.

CANDIDATE: BRIAN MCCARTHY
Brian McCarthy (San Francisco Region) has
been an SCCA participant for practically his
entire life. He saw his first SCCA event in
1959 and has been involved ever since.
McCarthy’s SCCA racing career started many
years ago with crewing and competing in
Solo (both 1 and 2) events. He officially
joined San Francisco Region in 1977. He has
competed in National and Regional events
all over the country and qualified and
attended the National Championship Runoffs
almost every year since 1984. He holds a
scrutineer’s license and has served on the
Club Racing Board.
His professional and work career was
spent in Fortune 500 companies specializing
in accounting and financial management.
McCarthy’s campaign, and the desire to
serve on the Board of Directors, is based on
the belief that the Club has made decisions
and established strategies that have largely
ignored a major contingency of average
members. Many of these strategies have
directly affected the decisions to participate
for many members and have resulted in the
ongoing decline in memberships. In addition,
having received the benefits of membership
